Trauma Counsellor
Vancouver

If you’re searching for a compassionate and experienced trauma therapist in Vancouver, I'm grateful you are here. Jillian Bagan Art Therapy offers a supportive environment where you can start your healing journey. Whether you’re dealing with PTSD, complex trauma, or any other trauma-related issues, we are here to help you navigate through your experiences and build a life that feels more manageable and fulfilling.

Understanding your PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can manifest in various ways, impacting every aspect of your life. Many people with trauma struggle to maintain full-time employment, feel constantly exhausted, and experience days where they feel completely incapable. It can feel like you're always between jobs, with your life, finances, and reputation suffering as a result. You might feel fake, robotic, or not good enough. Self-care can seem impossible, and small work issues might stress you out until you dissociate. Life can feel numb and empty, and trust in positive experiences may be hard to come by. These challenges are common, and understanding them is the first step toward healing.

How I can help

As a trauma therapist in Vancouver, my approach involves helping you learn to work with your PTSD, rather than against it.

Here are some approaches I can help you with:

  • Learning to trust yourself and the world around you

  • Regulating your emotional responses

  • Identifying your triggers and building a supportive life

  • Understanding the impact of your trauma on your current life

  • Experimenting with and practicing healthy boundaries

  • Co-regulation and reassurance

  • Arranging life in a trauma-supported way

  • Addressing and nurturing core needs

  • Discovering what works for you

  • Healing the body, emotions, and brain

  • Connecting with your inner child

  • Forming a strong sense of self

What to Expect

Initial Sessions
During the initial sessions, we will focus on building a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. We’ll explore your history, identify your current challenges, and set goals for your therapy. These sessions are designed to help you feel comfortable and understood, providing a solid foundation for our work together. We will also discuss any immediate concerns you have and develop a preliminary plan tailored to your specific needs.

Ongoing Support
My sessions tailored to your unique needs, focusing on practical strategies and emotional processing. As we progress, we will continually reassess your goals and adjust our approach to ensure that therapy is effective and relevant.

Trauma-Informed Approach
As a BC Registered Clinical Counsellor and Canadian Certified Counsellor, I use a trauma-informed approach that respects your pace and personal boundaries. This means recognizing the widespread impact of trauma, understanding paths for recovery, and ensuring that you stay within your own capacity for what you can handle. In our sessions your safety, choice and collaboration is a priority, so that you have a safe place to explore and heal from trauma at your own pace.

Why Choose Jillian Bagan as Your Trauma Therapist in Vancouver?

Expertise and Confidentiality: As a BC Registered Clinical Counsellor and Canadian Certified Counsellor, I have extensive training and experience in trauma therapy. My practice is grounded in evidence-based methods and deep understanding of trauma's complexities. I understand the importance of confidentiality, especially for those who may have not shared their story before. Rest assured, everything shared in our sessions remain confidential, when it comes to protecting your privacy and supporting your safety and well-being.

Accessible and Convenient: Located in Vancouver, my practice is easily accessible, and I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your needs. Whether you prefer in-person sessions or virtual therapy, I strive to provide services that fit your lifestyle. Additionally, my practice accepts direct billing through TELUS Health eClaims for various insurers, making it easier for you to access the support you need.

Traditional Therapy Doesn’t Work: In our sessions I used an art therapy approach that leverages neuroscience by engaging both verbal and nonverbal parts of the brain. Creating PTSD art can help piece together fragmented personal stories, allowing you to express and process experiences that are hard to verbalize. This process stimulates neuroplacitity, creating new neural pathways that support emotional healing and development. By integrating disparate parts of our narrative and fostering new brain connections, art therapy can promote lasting psychological growth.
